Lighthouse Project

So I bought a box full of antique glass insulators and was planning to make some more lights like I posted previously. I got them off of Ebay for a full box of 10 for $10 and I thought that was a great deal. When they got here I realized they were smaller than the ones I had these are only 2″ in diameter at the base. I had to come up with a new use for them…. the idea of a lighthouse intrigued me.

I took a light kit with a kids night light bulb and looked for scrap wood. There was a bit of Brazilian mahogany left over and thought that would be a good start. I did a really simple turning and then drilled out the center to run the electric cord. Finally i used a router to cut a groove for the cord.

All in all I think it was a fun project but, I want to do a few more out of lighter wood, do texturing and add carved windows and a door. It might also be a great opportunity to play with dyeing wood.
