Redwood Burl & Purple Heart Bowl
May 15th, 2008 by admin
This is one of the prettiest woods to look at but like cedar it is very soft, light and makes a terrible amount of red dust. Someday I will get some green and see how it turns. I do love the look of the wood and it always gets attention from buyers. Now I get lots of email from people telling me how much they like my work, they want to know things about how it was made and how long it took to turn, etc.

So I thought I would show you what a mistake looks like…… bet your wondering what I mean. This was supposed to be a nice hollow redwood bowl…. nothing more than that…… did you notice the purple heart base? That was added after I decided to tack one more small smooth cut inside the bowl….. and pushed a hole right through the bottom. Yep it happens to all of us…..can’t say I wasn’t upset but I decided the wood was just to pretty to throw away and added a bottom.

Some of you are asking why would I tell anyone… first lets all be honest we make mistakes and we learn from them…..well this isn’t the first or last time this will happen to me….. damn perfectionist heart I got…. two well its good to share a mistake and its also always amazes me that most people don’t see the flaws but just see the beauty. It almost restores some faith in people….. just don’t watch the evening news or that will leave you fast.
I hope you all enjoy this bowl and check out the glass insulator galleries again as I am adding new items to that gallery.
